Sheila Pinkel’s piece makes a concise, three-word statement, but contains a cascade of questions. “Will the capitalist system lead to the destruction of the planet? Is it possible for people to make a difference? Are we willing to change? Can innovative technologies, responsible for the problem, fix it? What will life be like if our consumer culture shifts into another system?” Pinkel’s point is clear: the planet is at stake.
