“In our world, states writer Don DeLillo, “we sleep and eat the image and pray to it and wear it too.” Artist Lois Notebaart deconstructs that world and remixes the pieces to construct new images, stills, and video. “Reality is a shredded collection of information and art is my way of dealing with it. Being constantly flooded with all the world’s news and stories it is impossible to filter out what’s important and what’s ‘real.’” Notebaart’s hope is that fragments and images from the vast flow can be used to build bridges to a new, better world. “Every image I make holds a question I can’t answer. But as soon as the piece is done, I can feel my head making a little more space for new unanswerable questions… This year’s epidemic has put everything in perspective even more. What are we doing? What are we changing?”
